We remake the admired furisode kimono, which has fewer opportunities to be worn outside coming-of-age ceremonies, by fusing Japanese style with resort atmosphere, creating dresses that anyone can easily wear.
We thought about how to make everyday use of items that would otherwise remain stored away as kimonos.
While kimono remakes are common, most are dresses and we felt there were few that could be worn casually. We focused on creating a form that is more accessible for everyday wear.
Furisode that are no longer worn are remade and reborn as dresses. We wash and process the purchased furisode so they can be hand-washed at home.
We create designs that showcase the beauty of world-renowned Japanese silk in resort settings. Popular as travel wear, souvenirs, and Japanese-style items for foreign tourists.
Shimafuga's furisode remake dresses are carefully finished one by one by housewives in Miyakojima working from home. This initiative supports women's remote work and expands possibilities for new ways of working in the region.
Products made by housewives' hands contain warmth and detailed care, and are loved by many as special pieces from Miyakojima.
We wanted to raise Miyakojima's GDP. We want to increase household income for Miyakojima citizens. There was a reality where companies from the mainland would make excessive profits without money flowing into the local area.
As a result, there was a reality where prices and land kept getting more expensive, yet local residents couldn't afford houses. We wanted to create a structure where wives could properly earn money while staying home, caring for children during nap times or school hours.
In addition to furisode remake dresses, we also sell summer dresses and bags perfect for resort areas, all of which are one-of-a-kind items.
